Not enough Kiwifruit Workers

Apparently Tauranga has an extremely low unemployment rate at the moment so the Kiwifruit industry is panicking because they aren't able to find enough employees to fill all their picking/packing jobs. The Kiwifruit season is due to get into full swing next month.

Last year I looked into doing packing. They expect you to work ridiculous hours. Like from 7.00am to 8.30pm. That simply doesn't work for me. Its also horrible work, standing on concrete floors for hours in the cold. The money is reasonable with minimum wage starting at $10.25/hour.

You're minimum wage is $10.25?! Wow! That's like _ way more than over here.

But you're right about the conditions that the kiwi-pickers have to work in. That's insulting! And sounds incredibly uncomfortable.

If the business owners are THAT worried, maybe they would make the working conditions more humane. But that would make too much sense, right?
